The Trialist — Privacy Policy

The Trialist is a Scottish football app: scores, fixtures, tables, club and player data, and a set of daily games. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do with your data. It is deliberately short, because the app collects very little.

The short version

• There are no adverts, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind.
• There is no account to create, and you are never asked for your name, email address, phone number or location.
• The only thing you can choose to share is a nickname, and only if you opt in to the Predictor leaderboard.

Information stored on your device

The following is saved only on your own device (and in your personal iCloud backup, if you have one enabled). It is not sent to us:

• Your chosen favourite club.
• Your goal-alert preferences (which competitions and clubs you want alerts for).
• Your progress, results, streaks and statistics in the daily games.
• Your Predictor score predictions for the current round.

Deleting the app removes all of this.

Information stored in iCloud (Apple CloudKit)

If — and only if — you choose to take part in the Predictor leaderboard, the app saves the following to a shared database hosted by Apple, so that scores can be ranked:

• The nickname you type in. You choose this freely; it does not need to be your real name.
• An anonymous identifier supplied by Apple that distinguishes your entries from other people's. It is specific to this app and does not identify you personally to us.
• Your points total for each completed round, and the code of any private league you join.

Your individual predictions are never published — only the final points total once a round has finished. If you never set a nickname, nothing is ever written to the leaderboard.

Push notifications

If you enable goal alerts, Apple's push notification service delivers them to your device. Notifications are triggered by public match events (a goal being scored), not by anything about you. You can turn them off at any time in the app or in iOS Settings.

Where the football data comes from

Match, fixture, table and player data is provided by Sportmonks. Club news headlines are read from public RSS feeds published by the BBC and by clubs themselves. These are read-only requests for public information — no information about you is sent to them.

Children

The app is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because no personal details are requested at all, no such information is gathered from users of any age.

Removing your data

To remove device-stored data, delete the app. To remove a leaderboard entry, or if you have any question about your data, contact us at the address below and it will be deleted.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a revised date at the top.
